Solstar

As Exhibits Architect of the Australian Pavilion at Expo 70 in Osaka, Robin Boyd arranged for the loan of this painting from South Yarra Gallery, most likely having seen it at Asher Bilu’s solo exhibition there in September 1968. It featured in the 'model house' exhibit in the Expo 70 Space Tube, over a bed containing a life-size cut-out figure by Bruce Petty. On its return from Expo, the painting was in transit at the Boyd's Walsh Street home - they liked it so much that they decided to buy it. In early 2021, Asher Bilu visited Walsh Street to view Solstar again. Asher was extremely happy with the painting’s condition 53 years after painting it. He requested it be hung a little higher and he returned to make some minor restorations.
