Season’s Greetings from Kikutake (1975)
Kiyonori Kikutake was a prominent Japanese architect in the 1960s, known as one of the founders of Metabolism. Kikutake was featured in New Directions in Japanese Architecture (1968) and corresponded with Boyd about the projects to be featured in that book. In 1972 Kikutake visited Melbourne to give the last lecture in an annual series organised by Boyd, the Melbourne Oration, that was cut short by his death in 1971. Kikutake continued to correspond with Patricia Boyd after Robin’s death - he also gave her a book, A Guide to Japanese Architecture, in 1972. This greeting card, dating to 1975, features a photo of Kikutake’s Aquapolis floating structure, built for Expo 75 in Okinawa.
