Japan 1961 Itinerary

Robin Boyd travelled to Japan for the first time in 1961 to meet Kenzo Tange and research a book he had been commissioned to write on the architect. Boyd at first had trouble obtaining a meeting, but in their encounter Boyd found the architect insightful and self-effacing. Boyd’s 1961 itinerary included many key Tange buildings, with stopovers at important centres of traditional architecture, including the Grand Shrine at Ise.
