Ashihara Catalogue (1966)

This catalogue commemorating the first 10 years of Yoshinobu Ashihara’s practice is extensively illustrated with drawings and photos of the firm’s work. It contains a short biography of Ashihara as well as a timeline of other architects working in the practice. The projects, presented chronologically, include the Komazawa Olympic Gymnasium (1964) and the newly-completed Sony Building (1966). Mostly in Japanese, the catalogue also contains a short essay in English translation reflecting on Ashihara’s design principles in particular buildings. Ashihara’s relationship with Robin Boyd was extensive, particularly during the late 1960s - Ashihara was featured in Boyd’s New Directions in Japanese Architecture (1968) and he was appointed Japanese co-architect of the Australian Pavilion at Expo 70 in Osaka.
